THE NAKED BODY

In 1993 i approached the image of the nude and liberated it

from all it's political, cultural, religious and sexual power,

valuating the status in which the male and female was

celebrated in Western Art at this point.

As a painter i resisted any technical assistance e.g.

computer, to construct and produce these paintings.

The "Pixel" accentuates the Sfumato,

by blowing up the image, but still preserving its

proportions.

This simple process alternated the existing formula

and method of painting.

THE SEX

I scrutinized the understanding of the fine

balance between the power sex has on art

and the power art has on sex.

Is the nude less naked or sexual, when exhibited in places

designated to art ?

Is it still the greatest victim of censorship ?

The increasing need and demand in a "clearer picture" led

me to deliberately reverse the process of observation,

by imposing the viewer to gain distance from the image,

considering the "clearer picture" is often created in the

mind.

THE PIXEL

By observing these images of the male and female

form, with all it's fragility and softness of the flesh,

the nakedness and sexual substance, they

appear to be protected by a veil of a visual fabric.

The grid, - dividing and segmenting the whole.

This hard edged geometrical ordered mosaic,

accommodating these equal squares, transmits and

interacts, without loosing definition.

This minute, but important element ( Pixel ) witnessed

already in the history of art, in form of pointilism, draws

fine lines between the abstract and realism, the

chaos and order in the complexity of visual

communication.

THE TITLES

A global language.

Following the metaphor, that women come from venus

and men come from mars, these paintings are

documented with the names of mountains,

valleys, gorges and planes drawn from the terrain maps of

these planets.

Space is art in itself, in which

we move constantly, as we, fragile beings perceive

and study our world around us, desperately aiming

to find fragments of comprehension.
